#1430 Springfield 1884 “Trapdoor Rifle”, 372XXX, 45/70Gvt w/Exc bore

Description

#1430 Springfield 1884 “Trapdoor Rifle”, standard military configuration, caliber 45/70Gvt and having an excellent bright bore and original Indian War period sling with the brass claw mountings (which in itself is worth about $75-100). This appears to be a totally standard 1884 Infantry rifle with the exception of having the 1873 dated low-arch breech (Model 1879) …and being as the rifle is in the 372XXX range, therefore this probably should have the 1884 dated trap. It also does not have any military cartouches …and appears to never have had any, so it’s possible that this rifle was either surplussed out to a military academy or state militia in the 1890s, or possibly was later refitted with a fort armory replacement stock. The barrel retains 80% coverage of a 70% density blue that is beginning to plum slightly, the breech block itself appears to have been reblued at some time. It does have some surface grime and thin surface rust from long time storage, but nothing extremely detrimental. It should clean up VERY nicely with some time, some OOOO bronze wool, oil, and a good soaking in white kerosene. The cleaning rod is the original, as is the long-range Buffington rear sight. About VG++ as described. $735

Price: $735.00
