#4644 Colt 1862 “Police”, 4-1/2”x36cal, 5XXX range
Description
#4644 Colt 1862 “Police”, 4-1/2”x36cal, 5XXX range and having liberal blue and some traces of cloudy greys of faded casecolors. The blue does appear to have been “helped” with some Cold Blue mixing with some good traces of original finish, but it’s hard to determine how much, except to say there is some light scattered "giveaway" pitting with blue in the pits. Nice grips with only the usual minor bumps and bruises, some liberal original silver wash remaining on the straps. Action has a hard trigger pull and seems to be firing off the half-cock position rather than fully back; also, the hammer has a small, but significant,crack at the nipple tip (see photos) as well as some deeper pitting. It does have a decent bore. This is a really nice looking little Colt, and the fluted Police is one of the slightly more scarce and difficult to find of the percussion series to obtain.
