#1405 Springfield 1884-SRC, 341XXX range (c,1884-85), excellent 45/70 bore
Description
#1405 Springfield 1884-SRC, 341XXX range (c,1884-85), excellent 45/70 bore (about an 9+ on a scale of 10), and appears totally correct for all features of this military trapdoor variation. Very nice smooth metal with veryfaint traces of thin blue mixed with a thin brown patina on the barrel and lock plate and some faint traces of casecolors still on the hammer. Desireable Buffington windage rear sight. The wood has a solid line crack at the front saddle bar screw and running forward up the forearm a few inches before fading away, but does not appear to have completely cracked through the stock. There is also what looks to be a very old and contemporary bullet graze on the right side of the stock body (see photos)! This does NOT look “artificially done” or placed to try to be a value enhancer, but rather looks to be just part of this carbines long life in combat on the frontier. Should make a great shooter (after a thorough safety check by a competent gunsmith, of course) as well as a very collectible Indian War Era carbine. There are no visible cartouches remaining. Overall, a nice looking carbine with a really fine bore and tight action. $1750
