#4919 Winchester 1873 OBFMSGB, 171XXX(1885), tang sight, 32WCF, Fine++
Description
#4919 Winchester 1873 OBFMSGB, 171XXX(1885), tang sight, 32WCF with unusually nice bore, about Fine (8 on a scale of 10), excellent crisp action. Now what is really interesting about this little rifle, is that it has a very “factory looking” cleaning rod attachment in which two wiping rods can be placed on either side of the barrel!! Being as the standard 4-piece cleaning rod set would not fit down the bore of the smaller caliber Model 1873s, there was no butt trapdoor in the butt plate (even though all the stocks were all pre-drilled for the rod kits). This is the reason it is so hard to find a small caliber ’73 with a decent bore. It may be that some owner fitted this with a brass sectioned rod set, as the wood rods are obvious replacements and steel rods would have been tough on the bore. The exterior (and interior as well) of this rifle is near excellent with 90-95% coverage of blue, being 50% density on the barrel, 20% on the magazine, and 85-90% on the receiver. Lyman style post tang sight, low buck-horn rear barrel sight, and pinched blade front. Fine wood with only a few modest bruises on the shotgun style butt stock. Far, far, above the average condition, especially for an 1885 made gun. There are lots of pictures of this neat old gun, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. $3250.
