#4268 Winchester 1876 “Open-Top” OBFMCB w/VERY rare 32” overlength barrel
Description
#4268 Winchester 1876 “Open-Top” OBFMCB w/VERY rare 32” overlength barrel AND being one of the very few 32”s made with just a single magazine band rather than the double bands that almost all had (see the Winchester Book by George Madis PG234 for this extreme rarity). Made about 1878 (58XX range) and being one of the last of the Open-Top receiver 1876s made during the dispute over the dust-cover patent. Caliber 45/75WCF (as all the early ‘76s were) and has a very decent bore and VG mechanics except for a broken extractor. Long range rear barrel sight and Winchester “pinch-blade” front sight. The wood is VG but does have stress drying cracks, both at the butt plate and belly of the forearm (see photos). There are a LOT of pictures (26 in all) of this neat old Winchester, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. The metal has an even deep brown patina and with the exception of the magazine, which has considerable DEEP pitting in blotches, the rest of the gun has minimal scattered pitting and shows just modest wear, bumps, and bruises of a 125 year life. It does have a Cody Museum “factory letter” that goes with it and verifies the barrel length as 32”. A very, VERY scarce gun, being an Open-Top, the very scarce 32” overlength barrel, and being one of just a few 32”s with just one magazine retaining band! About VG as described. $5795
