#3636 Harpers Ferry Model 1842 musket, 69caliber, dated 1845 (pre-Mexican War!)
Description
#3636 Harpers Ferry Model 1842 musket, 69caliber, dated 1845 (pre-Mexican War!) and basically being just a very decent “attic found” gun that is uncleaned with the exception of the markings where it was cleaned enough to identify it by some previous owner. The wood shows no significant usage, the reverse side has crisp wood with no appreciable wear to the edges and just the usual light bumps and bruises of a long life hidden away somewhere. It does not appear to have ever been Federally inspected or cartouched, nor do I see any military markings anywhere to denote some specific unit, but being dated this early, it almost was certain to have been involved in the Mexican War, even if just an honor guard gun in some “behind-the-lines” regiment. The metal has a deep patina on the barrel and minimal pitting and it has both sling swivels and the original ramrod. Tough to find a Model 1842 with a date BEFORE the Mexican War (1846-48); most seem to be dated 1849 or later. Here is one that could’ve been in that War. About VG as described. $995
