#4956 Colt D/A Model 1878 so-called “Sheriffs Model” or “StoreKeeper Model”, having the scarce and VERY desireable 3-1/2”x45COLT barrel and not fitted with the ejector system! Colt factory letter of authenticity!! Made and shipped in 1881, this was a “one-gun shipment” to an individual, and lists the gun exactly as it is; the letter itself dated 42 years ago! The gun has a fine action, functioning correctly on both single and double action, VG bore, very fine crisp metal with only some light freckle pitting on the lower left side of the barrel (see photo). It does look to have been “enhanced” with Cold Blue, but a very good job and easily removed if objectionable …or left to age naturally. For the Colt collector who likes these big framed D/As, here is a super chance at a rare gun at a VERY attractive price! VG-VG+ overall. $2395
