Description

1102P Colt Single Action Army, 7 1/2 inch barrel, 44 Rim Fire caliber, SN 17XX,. Shipped 12-13-1879 to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham New York with 11 others, blue finish, 7 1/2 inch barrel with wood grips. The 44 rim fire SAA was serialized separately from all the other Colt Single Action Armies. The 1st shipping was in 1875 and the last in 1887. The total quantity varies from 1802 to 1892 but there were converted 22 rim fires within this serial range also. The 44 rim fire cartridge was obsolete when the first 44 rim fire SAA left the factory in 1875. The great majority of these 44 rim fires went to other countries, mostly to Mexico. The survival rate of 44 rim fires is very low and most of the remaining rim fires have had their barrels cut to 4 3/4 or 5 1/2 inches. This one has the block barrel address, the small 44 under the barrel and the early 60 Army type rifling with equal width lands and groves. The barrel has the Colt Inspector stamps S & C under the ejector housing, the frame hammer slot has the C stamp and the back of the cylinder has the S stamp. The loading gate assembly number matches on the bottom of the frame. The metal is smooth, the action is tight and correct and the bore is excellent. The frame has silvery case and there is light blue in protected areas. The serial numbers all match, the 3-line patent date is sharp and all readable. The serial numbers on the back strap and trigger guard show wear but they are readable. The cylinder is not serialized but has the S inspector stamp on the back and the cylinders are bored for 44 rim fire and it matches the overall condition of the rest of the gun. 44 Colt or 44/40 ammo will not fit the cylinder bores. The Colt grips have no cracks, they have small chips to both front toes, show wear and fit nicely. A rare Colt Single Action Army in a hard to find caliber with a Colt factory letter. I have 2 Colt Letters, the original Colt letter dated 1993 and a new one I purchased in 2008.
The holster is NOT part of the sales price.
Overall condition very good plus.
