Description
#4912 Winchester 1873 OBFMCB, 2nd Model, 74XXX range, 44WCF with VG bore (about a 7 on a scale of 10), and good smooth and tight action. The exterior has an even smooth light grey-brown patina with no pitting of consequence; just the usual small freckles here and there. The wood has some serious dings and dents on the wrist area of the buttstock, particularly heavier on the left hand side (see photos). Some of these dents will likely steam out if one desires, but doing so will also then lose the age patina, so I will leave that option to the next owner to decide whether to do this procedure; the gouges will not come out. Generic replacement rear barrel sight, standard pinched blade Winchester front sight, dust cover looks to be the original. Nothing spectacular here, just a decent, honest old Second Model made in 1881 ..and a modest grade of a popular rifle that is rapidly disappearing from most gunshows. G++/VG as described. $1795
