#1411 Springfield 1884 Trapdoor rifle, 375XXX, excellent bore (45/70) and tight action. Very good metal with a smooth even dark brown patina overall, good markings. It does have a few detriments and faults worth mentioning. One being that it has some larger nicks and chips of consequence in the wood, such as beneath the hammer next to the upper tang and one deep gouge on the forearm (as can be seen in one of the photos). Also, the rear tang screw is missing, and another in that it has the earlier 1879 variation of rear sight rather than the Buffington sight which should be on a gun in this serial range. Still, it has a really fine bright bore and is a popular and easy to repair gun that would make an excellent entry level big-bore rifle in a very popular caliber that is also easy and relatively inexpensive to load and shoot. (All after a complete safety check by a competent gunsmith of course!) VG $750
