#3872 Winchester 1885 Hi-Wall, No.3, .38/55, 30-inch barrel, 33XXX serial range (1889) and having a VG bore (about a 6-7 on a scale of 10) with some light scale in the grooves but strong rifling and well defined lands. Typical tight solid action. Smooth crisp metal with about 90-95% coverage of a soft 70% density barrel blue that is plumming slightly; the frame case coloring has faded and silvered out to a thin swirled silver-grey. Decent wood with no really serious deficits or detractions other than a well done repair to a chip at the lower toe area, and inexplicably does have a well-done filled in ˝-inch area behind the lower tang, as if the tang were longer at one time (…perhaps a wide spaced double set trigger had been installed at some point?) This caliber is always highly sought after in the Model 1885, as it is still a widely available cartridge and was quite accurate for a larger straight case black-powder caliber. Fitted with the factory optional Beeches style flip-up ringed front sight and standard open semi-buckhorn rear barrel sight, standard trigger. About Fine, as described. $2895
