#4796 Marlin-Ballard No.5 Pacific rifle, standard medium weight full octagonal barrel in 40/63-Everlasting (about the same ballistics as the 40/70 or 40x2-1/2 Sharps Straight) and having a fine bore. The barrel retains a soft plum blu-brown color, no pitting and just minor bumps and bruises ....but does have a name, R. MUNN stamped on the left side flat just foward of the forestock. It is not easily noticeable, but it is there and it is not gonna go away ..and no attempt should be made to remove it, as this will remove the finish as well. The reciever is a thin brownish-grey patina with strong manufacturers markings. The wood is basically very good, but does suffer from the infamous Ballard Curse ...the stress split at the wrist from the stock main screw being tightened too tight. The rear barrel sight is the CORRECT Marlin sight with the footed base; the front sight is a Rocky Mountain style open blade. Action is tight, the doubleset triggers work as they should, and except for the stamped name on the barrel flat, this is overall a VERY decent VG++/Fine gun. $2350 (Please read sellers rules below ..and thanks for looking!!)
