Description 351R Springfield Trapdoor rifle, 1888 cartouche, SN 557XXX. The right side of the stock has a large 12 over the number 456 and a C over I on the top of the comb. Springfield Research showed several rifles in this serial range listed as going to the 12th New York Volunteer Infantry, Company I. It has a clear 1888 cartouche on the right side and the breech block is dated 1884. The barrel has turned to plum, most of the other parts still have good blue and some case on the breech. The ramrod-bayonet locks in tightly, the action is crisp, the bore has good rifling and is a shiny 8+. The stock has minor handling dings, no cracks and one 1 1/2 inch sliver missing on the under side along the rod opening. You can not see it unless you turn it over.
Overall condition very good plus.
